Depending on location, this may be either an offshore earthquake from the Cascadia subduction zone or local crustal faults within Puget Sound. To see the specific modeled effects from a single earthquake scenario, use the Tsunami Scenario Catalog.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt; Areas Not Modeled for Tsunami Hazard - No tsunami modeling has been done for these areas, but a tsunami hazard may still exist along all Washington State shorelines, and even within inland bodies of water.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Tsunami Scenarios Catalog - This catalog contains tsunami inundation models from several deterministic earthquake scenarios. The location and magnitude of the source earthquake determines the extent and size of the modeled tsunami. The tsunami scenario models are generated from several different scenario earthquakes along the Cascadia subduction zone and other local crustal faults.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;UL&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Cascadia subduction zone scenario 1A: Modeled after a simulated 9.1 magnitude earthquake, based on the ~A.D. 1700 event along the Cascadia subduction zone.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Cascadia subduction zone scenario 1A with asperity: Modeled after a simulated 9.1 magnitude earthquake, based on the ~A.D. 1700 event along the Cascadia subduction zone. Simulation adds an extra 20 ft of uplift as compared to scenario 1A.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Cascadia subduction zone M 9.0 scenario: Modeled after a simulated 9.0 magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia subduction zone using the L1 splay fault model. The Extended-L1 model was further extended up to the northwest off of Vancouver Island.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Seattle fault earthquake scenario: Modeled after a simulated ~ 7.5 magnitude earthquake on the Seattle Fault, similar to that of the ~1100 year B.P. event.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Tacoma Fault earthquake scenario: Modeled after a simulated ~ 7.3 magnitude earthquake on the Tacoma Fault.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Tacoma Fault- Rosedale monocline earthquake scenario: Modeled after a simulated ~ 7.3 magnitude earthquake on the Tacoma Fault using the Rosedale monocline as the dominant slip face.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;&lt;/DIV&gt;</idAbs>
<idPurp>The mission of the Washington Geological Survey (WGS) is to collect, develop, use, distribute, and preserve geologic information to promote the safety, health, and welfare of the citizens, protect the environment, and support the economy of Washington. In order to do this, WGS works with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Washington to model the inundation (flooding) of coastal areas from tsunamis. From these models the WGS produces tsunami inundation maps to communicate the hazard identified in these models to emergency management, planners, and the public to prepare for the next event in Washington. The WGS works with the Washington Emergency Management Division and local, county, tribal, and other planners and emergency managers to develop, publish, and distribute pedestrian evacuation maps, and evacuation brochures. These maps and brochures are made for areas that are especially at risk for damaging tsunamis. This feature class contains polygons of areas that are modeled to be inundated by tsunami waves for a given earthquake scenario. These polygons were modified with ArcGIS's default smoothing algorithms then manually spot checked and corrected as needed. This feature class also contains polygons of areas not modeled for tsunami inundation at this time.</idPurp>
