The Parcel Fabric was constructed from those polygons, lines, and points mapped initially in AutoCAD. Over a period of years, 2001-2010, the process of digitally drafting the parcels in AutoCAD utilized the legal descriptions bearing and distance measurements, then they were adjusted and verified against aerial imagery. From AutoCAD the parcels were then migrated to the Parcel Fabric to maintain adjustment details, editor tracking, and to maintain topographical integrity. After the Parcel Fabric is updated, the Tax Parcel feature class is joined with PACS information and exported to produce the Parcels shapefile. Specifically for the sales information, a query is exported from PACS identifying the parcels with qualified sales. This table is then joined to the parcels layer from which only the affected parcels are maintained in this layer. This feature class is largely utilized by the Assessor’s Office and the public. The accuracy and timeliness of updates are important. The data is consistently accurate to 3 feet in most of Island County, though very often accurate to 1 foot. Use of the layer assists the appraisers in assessing land values and seeing the spatial locations displayed on a map.
