Description
Abstract 
                            This feature is utilized by Island County GIS data stewards for cartographic and reference purposes. It consists of the quarter sections of the Public Lands Survey System for Whidbey and Camano Islands. Last update: 2012
Purpose 
                            It is expected to be utilized by the Assessor’s Office, Public Works, Planning, and the Health department in their daily business practices as geographical reference and cartographic purposes. Specifically, the Assessor’s Office uses this layer as a reference for location of parcels, plats, and condos and creation of quarter section maps.  Several departments use this feature class as a grid in map books and atlases. Quarter Section dimensions are not the same county wide.

Distribution Liability 
                        Assessor's disclaimer - These maps were created from available public records and existing map sources, and from different surveyors and their surveys. Map features from all sources have been adjusted to achieve a ‘best fit’ registration to the Ownership parcels. While great care was taken in this process, maps from different sources rarely agree as to the precise location of geographic features. The relative positioning of map features to one another results from combining different map sources without field ‘ground truthing’.
